Kennesaw Mountain

Hike to the top of Kennesaw Mountain on a clear day, and you'll get one of the best views in metro-Atlanta - check out the Atlanta skyline, the natural wonder of Stone Mountain and even Tennessee.

Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park offers 17 miles of hiking trails that go through the entire park, including Cheatham Hill and Kolb Farm battlefields. Horseback riding is also available. History buffs can take in a movie about Kennesaw Mountain's role in the Civil War and tour the museum. The park is free to visitors.

Stone Mountain Park

Stone Mountain Park is Georgia’s most visited attraction, drawing nearly 4 million guests each year. With over 3,200acres of natural beauty, the Park is a unique and fun destination where families and friends can enjoy the outdoors together, while experiencing an exciting variety of attractions, entertainment and recreation.
 

Park Attractions include:

  • Summit Skyride to the top of the mountain
  • Scenic Train Ride around the mountain
  • Paddlewheel Riverboat Cruise in Stone Mountain Lake
  • Kids’ Attractions like the Treehouse Challenge, Great Barn and Camp Highland Outpost
  • All-New 18-Hole Adventure Mini-Golf Course
  • Georgia’s First 4D Theater
  • Lasershow Spectacular
  • Sightseeing Tour
  • One of the more popular things to do is take the Ride The Ducks™ Sightseeing Tour. It travels on land and water!

The Park has a talented staff of actors, singers and musicians on hand to make your day memorable.

Stone Mountain Park is also home to world-class festivals and events throughout the year. Annual featured events include:

  • Spring FUN Break in early April
  • Animal Planet™ Summer Adventure in June & July
  • Yellow Daisy Festival – the Nation’s #1 Arts & Crafts Show, the weekend after Labor Day
  • Pumpkin Festival on weekends in October
  • Stone Mountain Christmas in November & December
  • Coca-Cola® Snow Mountain operating November through January

    Recreation

    With 3,200 acres, there is ample room to enjoy the great outdoors at Stone Mountain Park. Many local visitors use the Park to jog, walk and hike on over 15 miles of nature trails. The Park has numerous picnic areas and quiet spots to escape and enjoy nature.

    In Summer 2008 the Park will also open a brand new attraction – Big Rock Water Park™. It is sure to be a "splash" with families!

    Silver Comet Trail

    The Silver Comet Trail is located 13 miles northwest of Atlanta, Georgia and travels west through Cobb, Paulding and Polk counties. This quiet, non-motorized trail is for walkers, hikers, bicyclists, roller bladers, horses, dog walkers, and is wheel chair accessible. The Silver Comet is paved for over 37 miles starting at Mavell Road in Smyrna to Water Street in historic downtown Rockmart. When completed, the Silver Comet Trail will start in Smyrna, Georgia and end at the Georgia / Alabama state line.

    At the Georgia / Alabama state line, the Silver Comet will connect to the 33-mile long Chief Ladiga Trail that ends in Anniston, Alabama. When construction on the Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga is finished, the trails will join to form one continuous trail from Smyrna, Georgia to Anniston, Alabama.  

    Both the Silver Comet and Chief Ladiga are converted rail-trails built on abandoned railroad lines.

    Lake Allatoona

    Located only 30 miles from Atlanta, Georgia, Allatoona Lake is situated on the Etowah River, a tributary of the Coosa River. The serene lake and peaceful surroundings offer a respite from the rush of city living.

     

    Allatoona Lake is one of the most frequently visited Corps of Engineers lakes in the nation. More than 6 million visitors each year enjoy picnicking and swimming at our parks, camping, hunting, fishing, boating, and observing wildlife along the beautiful shoreline.

    Lake Acworth
