Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance March 10, 2010 |
Times: 7:30pm
http://www.cobbenergycentre.com/ Location: Cobb Energy Centre Phone: 770-916-2800 Admission: $38.00, $45.00, $53.00 plus fees Described by the New York Post as "fascinating, rewarding and above all, entertaining," and by the Los Angeles Times as "a showpiece extravaganza," Lord of the Dance is a mesmerizing blend of traditional and modern Celtic music and dance. The story is based upon mythical Irish folklore as Don Dorcha, Lord of Darkness, challenges the ethereal lord of light, the Lord of the Dance. Battle lines are drawn, passions ignite and a love story fueled by the dramatic leaps and turns of dancers' bodies begins to build against a backdrop of Celtic rhythm. The action is played out over 21 scenes on a grand scale of precision dancing, dramatic music, colorful costumes and state-of-the-art staging and lighting.

Jamie Cullum March 12, 2010 |
Times: 8pm
http://www.cobbenergycentre.com/ Location: Cobb Energy Centre Phone: 770-916-2800 Admission: $30.50 - $35.50 plus fees English jazz-pop, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Jamie Cullum is renowned for his eclectic live shows where he performs not only his own hits ("These Are the Days") but also covers from a heterogeneous list of artists like White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" and Massive Attack's "Teardrop." He is has also covered artists like Joy Division, Pussycat Dolls and Justin Timberlake as well as beatboxing at most of his live gigs. His trademark energy and charisma at live performances is unparalleled. Now Jamie is returning to Atlanta for one show only at the Cobb Energy Centre on Friday, March 12th.
Jamie is a past Grammy nominee (Best Jazz Vocal Album) and recently a Golden Globe nominee (for "Gran Torino" with Clint Eastwood). Having spent two years touring in support of his album Catching Tales, Cullum retreated from the spotlight and spent much of the next two years recharging his creative batteries through a variety of musical and non-musical endeavors. Cullum and his older brother, and frequent collaborator, Ben joined forces for a dance music project "BC vs. JC" that found the brothers creating melodic dance music in clubs across England; Cullum also contributed to albums for artists as varied as Pharrell Williams, the Count Basie Orchestra, Japan's Soil & Pimp Sessions, Norway's Beady Belle and France's Camille; as well as spending time as a Goodwill Ambassador to Ethiopia for Unicef.
And now - like the exploding piano on its cover - Jamie Cullum's long-awaited new Verve album The Pursuit blows away audience and artist preconceptions leaving 14 smoldering tracks that seamlessly run the gamut from swinging standards and yearning singer-songwriter confessionals to 125 BPM house dance tracks and resurrected Broadway ballads. "It was the right time for me to take myself out of my comfort zone, and to push myself to be bolder," Cullum says of the album "I wanted to build on the things I've already done, but I also wanted to reinvent myself."
